YOSEMITE WATERFALL

THE OBSERVATORY CABIN

01
Context

Located at the gate of the Yosemite National Park, this 2-bedroom cabin was derelict and needed a complete renovation. Bought by a couple living by the ocean as their holiday home and occasional B&B, this lovely project became their main home during the pandemic, after they put much care in the renovation.

Project

With some tweaking, the layout globally remained the same, with the addition of a powder room, a laundry, and a desk space. A central corridor was added to offer views of the exceptional site at the heart of the house, transforming the whole flow of the house. The deck, overlooking the waterfall, was completely reconstructed with recessed parts so as not to obstruct the indoor view.

Details

The interior aesthetic is simple and natural with cream and black accents, for a warm and charming atmosphere while directing the attention to the outdoors. The living space ceiling was vaulted and the old stone fireplace was preserved, to retain some history and character of the old cabin.
